Creating An Appetite For Fairness

With little to no in-house seating due to COVID-19, most restaurants have survived by promoting take-out and home delivery – requiring many eateries to use online order/delivery services like UberEats, Skip the Dishes and Door Dash. Such apps have charged resto owners commission fees of up to 25% off the total order price — a tough hit for restaurants barely hanging on.

To help them weather the pandemic, Sociavor created a commission-free web app specifically for Waterloo Region restaurants. And to promote the app to the public, Explore Waterloo Region Tourism asked us to cook up some appetizing communications.

We began with a simple, approachable identity to stand out in a crowded field of food apps, followed by a postcard placed in customers’ takeout packages explaining that using the app on their next order could help their favourite eateries to survive.

To cast a larger net, we also created a print ad that ran in regional magazines, arresting viewer attention by embedding copy directly into the image of a takeout container.

The result: restaurants and the public have embraced wreats.ca as a fast, easy take-out option that serves up a sense of community for customers while keeping their beloved restos from feeling the bite.
